1.1 Unresolved Feuds

Prompt A: Summary
In the town of Verona there are two families, the Capulet's and the Montague's who have been in a feud for years. Two servants from the Capulet family are walking down the streets in Verona and are confidently talking about how they would like to harm those of the Montague family. They begin exchanging these remarks with servants of the Montague family and these remarks soon result in a quarrel of swords. Benvolio, a Montague servant comes and tries to break up the fight and Tybalt comes and does the opposite by trying to provoke the fight. Benvolio tries to make the servants drop their swords, but the only person who is able to get the men to stop fighting is the Prince of Verona. He angrily speaks to them and says that this is the third outburst of their feud and swears there will be consequences to whoever starts another quarrel. Frustrated, the Prince summons Lord Capulet and Lord Montague to discuss the matter. The crowd disappears and Benvolio is the only one left with Lord and Lady Montague who are concerned about their son Romeo, who has been depressed lately. 1. Riley, you have very good questions that I think a lot of students have as well. For example, I thought about how the rivalry between the two families came about as well.

  2. I like how you structures the theme in the form of the thesis statement-hypothetically you could create an entire essay out of it.
