Prompt A: Summary
In Act 1, Scene 2, the plot begins where Lord Capulet and a man named Paris discuss how Paris is longing to marry Lord Capulet's daughter, Juliet. Lord Capulet quickly explains that Juliet, as a young thirteen-year old girl, is much too young to marry at the moment. He suggests that Paris wait just a few more years before asking for her hand in marriage. Meanwhile, Lord Capulet invites Paris to a party he is planning for that very same night. He tells Paris that Juliet will be among the many young women at the party. Lord Capulet hands a servant a guest list, asking him to search for everyone and hand them the invitations. At that moment, Romeo and Benvolio walk by and Romeo is still discussing his broken heart over Rosaline. While Romeo is reading the guest list the servant hands him, he notices that one of the guests on the list is Rosaline. Not realizing that Romeo and Benvolio are Montague's, the servant invites them to the party as well, mainly to look for the girl Romeo loves. Romeo agrees to attend, just because of Rosaline.
Prompt B: Theme
Searching for love won't get you too far as true love is only found when you aren't expecting it.
Prompt C: Questions
-Paris, How come you are so set on marrying Juliet despite the age difference? Isn't there someone else you might rather choose?
-Paris, do you personally know Juliet?
-Romeo, how will you disguise yourself since you are a Montague at a Capulet party?
-Romeo, how will you attract attention to Rosaline?
-Benvolio, do you want to attend the party just to accompany Romeo?
