Act 3 Section 5: Hiding True Feelings
Prompt A:
In this scene, it starts out with Romeo sneaking up to Juliet's room to be with her. Not having much time, Romeo and Juliet say there goodbyes when Juliet's mother comes in unexpectedly. After Juliet leaves Romeo crying because she doesn't know when she will see him again, she goes in to see her mother. Lady Capulet mistakenly thinks that Juliet is crying because of her cousin, Tybalt's death. Wanting to cover up her true feeling for Romeo, Juliet pretends to want to get revenge for her cousin's death and kill Romeo. When Lady Capulet believes Juliet, she explains to her that she will marry Paris this Thursday. Shocked by this news, Juliet refuses and says she would rather marry Romeo who her mom thinks she hates. This scene ends with Juliet, her mother and her father arguing about the wedding between Juliet and Paris.
Prompt B:
The theme of this scene is that it is better to love and have losses, than to not have love be risk free.
Prompt C:
Juliet: What would you have done if your mom saw you and Romeo on the balcony?
Lady Capulet: Why is Paris the best choice for Juliet?
Nurse: Why did you stop helping Juliet try to be with Romeo?
Capulet: How did you decide that Paris was the best match for Juliet?
Capulet: Would Tybalt be your heir is he had not been killed?
I agree with your question to Lady Capulet: Why is Paris the best choice for Juliet? I think Lady Capulet was too spontaneous in making the decision to marry away Juliet. If she gave it a bit more thought, she would realize there is a better husband for Juliet than Paris.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the theme that it is better to have love and losses rather than being risk free. I think this theme comes throughout the story as it shows how both Romeo and Juliet don't really care what the other families think, they just want each other.
