1.1 Bitter Peace
Prompt B: Theme
I think the main theme of this chapter is that you should be forgiving and not a grudge holder; .
Prompt A: Summary
In the beginning of the play, Sampson and Gregory, servants, are making jokes and fooling around with words. Sampson picks a fight with Abraham which then escalates to a skirmish between the two houses and bored peasants. Prince Escalus steps up and stops the fight with a long speech. Lord Montague was worried if Romeo was in that fight, but soon finds out he wasn't. At the end of the scene, Romeo and Benvolio were talking about who Romeo loves and why he can't be with Rosaline.
Prompt C: Questions
1. Do the servants of the Capulet House get along as well as the servants of the Montague house?
2. Where and how did this grudge come about?
3. Why aren't the families trying to fix this argument after all these years?
4. Why do Gregory and Sampson pick a fight when they know they can get in trouble or even killed?
5. Why does Tybalt want to fight, but Benvolio want peace?
