1.2 A Hand In Marriage

Prompt A:
Act 1 Scene 2 starts off with Count Paris expressing his intention to marry Juliet while talking to Lord Capulet. Lord Capulet is reluctant to do so because he believes that Juliet is too young to be married and Paris should first woo Juliet and win her heart. He then invites Paris to his upcoming party and demands that a serving-man travel through Verona and invite the people to his party that he has written on a list. Later, Benvolio and Romeo discover from the list that the Capulets will be hosting a party, after helping the serving-man read the pamphlet. More importantly they learn that Rosaline, the woman who rejected Romeo's prior advances will be attending. Benvolio suggests that Romeo attend the party in order to get over Rosaline by "comparing her face" with other beautiful women. Although Romeo in doubtful that he will overcome his love of Rosaline, he agrees with Benvolio's scheme.

Prompt C:
1. Lord Capulet-What do you think of Count Paris? Do you actually like him as a person? Do you think her is too eager?

2. Lord Capulet- In not allowing Count Paris to marry Juliet yet are you really just buying time so that Juliet will marry someone else?

3. Count Paris- Why are you so eager to marry Juliet? It doesn't seem like you've known her (or she has known you) for very long. Is she your last resort? Or do you want her family's money?

4. Romeo- Before Rosaline have you ever fallen in love before, and if so, do you always get this emotional about breakups? Do you actually think you can recover from being dumped?

5. Benvolio- Do you consider Romeo a close friend? Why are you trying so hard to get him out of his heart break?
