Prompt A: Count Paris asks Capulet if he can marry his daughter Juliet. Although Capulet claims that Juliet is too young for marriage, he invites Paris to a party at his house that night, and tells Paris that Juliet must consent to marrying him before Capulet will allow him to. Capulet gives a list of people to Servingman, and tells him to invite them to the party, along with Paris. Servingman, unable to read, finda Benvolio and Romeo on the street, and asks Romeo to read the list. When Romeo sees the list he discovers that Rosaline is one of the people invited and he and Benvolio make plans to crash the party.
Prompt C:
Romeo- how will you get into the party if it is hosted by the Capulets? Romeo- how did you meet Rosaline?
Benvolio-will you go to the Capulets' party to aid Romeo? Servingman- Don't most people who work for the Capulets know who the Montagues are, and know not to ask them for help? Romeo- what did you mean when you were talking about Benvolio's "broken shin"?
Prompt F:
Romeo and Benvolio have a very strong bond. Not only are they cousins, but they seem as if they are best friends, or even have a brotherly relationship. Romeo and Benvolio have probably grown up together, and have known each other for their entire life. This is why they view each other as brothers, and Benvolio is so eager to mend Romeo's heart by going to the Capulet's party with him. Benvolio states, "... I will show you shining at this feast, And she shall scant show well that now seems best" (33 line 105-6) Benvolio wants to got to the party to try to get Romeo to find another girl, and to forget about Rosaline and his heartache. Benvolio knows that going to the party can lead in violence, considering that the Capulets and Montagues are ancient foes, but he takes the risk in order to help his cousin and best friend.
Excellent commentary on Prompt F! I like how you tied in multiple themes and ideas into one quote's worth of commentary.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you show precise examples of how Benvolio is a really valuable friend to Romeo. The part where you say, "Benvolio knows that going to the party can lead in violence, considering that the Capulets and Montagues are ancient foes, but he takes the risk in order to help his cousin and best friend," is a really good example of how loyal Benvolio is.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you explained Beniveilo and Romeos relationship with saying how they are also friends not just cousins
