3.5 Grief and Anger over Tybalt's Death

Prompt A:
When Juliet hears the new of Tybalt's death she is struck with grief. Her mother comes up and talks with her empathizing with her. Soon the subject changes and her mother becomes enraged at the killer of Tybalt, Romeo and Juliet must agree with her mother in order to keep her secret. The mother then changes to better news of a planned marriage for Juliet on Thursday. Juliet is struck, and exclaims that she will not marry Paris, but Romeo. Her mother is shocked and tells Juliet that this problem will be dealt with by your father. Capulet is extremely mad at Juliet and threatens to kick Juliet out if she disobeys him. Juliet is sad, and she talks with the Nurse for comfort.

Prompt B:
The theme is that in order for an issue to be resolved, everything must be exposed to let the problem fix itself.

Prompt F:
The relationship between Caplet and Juliet is disturbed by the news of her want to marry Romeo. Capulet finds that Juliet is not respecting her parents, and she must be proud to have got the chance to have a good husband. He is enraged by her betrayal and threatens to kick her out of the house. The relationship between the two quickly changes from normal to bitter, and Juliet is depressed at the outcome of the news. "I tell thee what: get thee to church o'Thursday, Or never after look me in the face. Speak not; do not answer me"(167).

1.3 A Discussion about Marriage

Prompt A: Summary

At the house of the Capulet's, Juliet is forced to think of her future. Her mother prepares for a party to introduce Paris for a future husband of Juliet. Juliet is concerned about the decision, and feels that she is not ready to get married at the age of 13 and start a family. Her nurse is exited about the fact that she gets to see the girl that she has been taking care of finally gets to start her own family. She shares some of her own experiences with Juliet. The rest of the family is convinced that Paris will be a suitable husband for Juliet, but she is unsure that she really wants to marry him. Her mothers explains that now is the time to marry , and that any later will be too late.

Prompt B:Theme

The theme is that you should trust your gut feeling even if your surroundings tell you what you should be doing.

Prompt F:Relationship between two Characters

The relationship between the nurse and Juliet is a motherly relationship, as the nurse has raised Juliet from a baby, and recognizes that she is growing up into a women. She wants Juliet to get married and looks out for telling her the benefits of getting married. The nurse says, "Thou was the prettiest babe that e'er I nursed. An I might live to see thee married once, I have my wish"(37 line 65-67) She knows that Juliet is reluctant to get married but shares her experiences taking care of her, and emphasis how she would be proud to see the person she has been taking care of to get married and start a family of her own.
