Prompt A:
Romeo and Juliet separate themselves from each other. Lady Capulet finds Juliet crying and asks her if she is crying because of the death of Tybalt. Juliet answers with a response that stuns her mother and also with the fact that she doesn't want to marry paris. Her father comes into the scene and is ashamed that Juliet won't marry Paris a man that will make her the happiest woman. She doesn't agree with this so she goes off to the church to seek what she should do.

Act 4 Scene 3----------The Plan Is Afoot
Prompt A
On the day that Juliet and Paris were to be wed, the Nurse discovers Juliet "dead" and alerts her parents. The family is distraught and are lamenting her death. The Friar comes and tells the family that they should be happy for her because at least she didn't suffer. The friar tells them that a funeral must be arranged quickly and the Capulets agree. Later, Peter wants the musicians, who came with the Friar and Paris, to play but they refuse. They say their job is over.

In this picture, two men are digging out of jail with a spoon. This is a seemingly impossible task but they are determined to get out because they are innocent and want to go to their loved ones. The Friar (almost) Saves The Day
Prompt A: County Paris visits the Friar to tell him that, with the blessing of Lord Capulet, he plans to marry Juliet. However, the Friar, having already married Juliet and Romeo, acts unsure and wary about this arrangement. When Juliet joins them she shows her resentment towards Paris and the wedding. Once Paris leaves she tells the Friar what he already knows- just how much she doesn't want to marry Paris. Then she begins to express her devastation by mentioning suicide as the only solution. However, the Friar brings another solution to Juliet's attention. He proposes a vial of poison that will make her appear dead but merely put her in a deep sleep. Desperately, Juliet eagerly agrees to this plan.

At the beginning, I think Juliet must feel like she is handcuffed because she is being forced into something she doesn't want to do and there is nothing she can do to stop it. She has no power and freedom. However, the Friar gives her the "key" to the handcuffs, or situation, in the form of the vial. This is because he is giving her the freedom to make her own choices and marry and love whoever she wants.

Romeo kills Paris and then sets his corpse next to Juliet's "dead" body in her tomb. Overwhelmed with emotions, Romeo gives his love one last kiss before drinking his poison and dying moments after. Unfortunately, Romeo has the worst timing ever, and Juliet awakens mere seconds after Romeo commits suicide. Upon seeing Romeo's dead body, Juliet is overcome with grief and stabs herself with Romeo's own daggar. At this point, the townspeople have awoken, and are spreading rumors of death around the town, leading to the Prince, Capulets, and Montagues to show up at the vault, concerned about the well-being of their children. Friar Lawrence tells the tale of Romeo and Juliet and gives the news of their deaths. Not wanting any more deaths to come because of their long-lasting hatred, the Montagues and Capulets make peace and vow to never become enemies again.

Prompt F:
Romeo and Juliet are bound by a love so strong that they cannot stand to live without each other. When Romeo finds Juliet, still on the sleeping medication, in her coffin, he determines that she is dead. Romeo then kisses her and drink his poison... "'The doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss, a dateless bargain to engrossing death,'" (227). When Juliet awakes and finds her lover dead, she shares the same feelings that Romeo did previously, and decides to kill herself to join him in heaven. Juliet then takes Romeo's dagger and exclaims, "'O, happy dagger, this is they sheath. There rust, and let me die.' [She takes Romeo's dagger, stabs herself. and dies]," (231). Romeo and Juliet are so loyal to each other that they are willing to kill themselves and leave sorrow in the rest of their families so that they can be with each other in heaven. It seems a little cheesy for two lovers to prefer death over not being with one another only weeks after meeting each other.
3.1 Two deaths, One scene
Prompt A: In act 3 scene 1, Tybalt wants to fight Romeo. Seeking Romeo, Tybalt finds Benvilio and Mercutio, who are also looking for Romeo. Tybalt and Mercutio talk and before long their discussion becomes heated. Romeo finally shows up only to cause Tybalt and Mercutio to draw their swords against each other. Trying to stop the fight, Romeo stands in between the two. Seeing this as an opportunity, Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo's arm. Later in the scene, Tybalt returns to kill Romeo. The two fight and Romeo wins, killing Tybalt. After he kills Tybalt, Romeo flees Verona and is banished by the Prince a short time later.

Intercepting some information about a challenge to a duel from Tybalt to Romeo, they continue to assume that Romeo is too soft-hearted and young to duel such an experience fighter. Enter Romeo, and as Mercutio and Benvolio finish off their teasing with each other, accuse Romeo of leaving them at the party. Romeo, ignoring it at first, eventually has enough and stands up for himself. This leads to an argument between Romeo and Mercutio, ending with Benvolio splitting them apart.

This picture represents to me the scene because Romeo is taking all the joke and the beatings from Mercutio and Benvolio, which is like the two hands. Even though Mercutio and Benvolio keep verbal punches, Romeo is able to hold himself together and withstand every punch. Eventually in the scene, he does begin to push back.

At the end of the scene, the nurse tells the news and tells Juliet that she will fetch a ladder for them to be together.

Then, a knock is heard on the door, and the Friar begs Romeo to get up and hide so he won't get caught. When he finds out the knocker is Juliet's nurse, he lets her in while Romeo is still in the room because she won't tell on him. The Nurse scolds Romeo for acting so weak, but Romeo threatens to kill himself for causing Juliet sadness. Friar Lawrence then sends Romeo off, promising his servant will bring him news about Juliet.

Then Romeo calls for Apothecary and offers forty ducats for poison, and then Apothecary gives Romeo the poison, for him to go and drink the potion in front of Juliet's grave, to die next to her.

3.3: Romeo is Probably the Most Annoying Character in the Entire Book
PROMPT A:
The only two characters in this scene are Friar Laurence, Romeo, and the nurse makes a brief appearance at the end. The Friar tells Romeo that the Prince of Verona gave Romeo a light sentence for his murder of Tybalt, instead of being sentenced to death, Romeo is merely banished from Verona. As per usual, Romeo start moaning in Iambic pentameter. What a baby! Anyways, according to Romeo, for him, Juliet the world for him, and banishment from the town she lives in is banishment from his world, and banishment from the world is just another way of saying death. I'm pretty sure that sentence just killed some Logic Majors, but whatever. Romeo is so sad that he literally throws himself on the floor. Soon after, someone starts knocking on the Friar's door, so Friar Laurence tries to hide Romeo so that neither of them get in trouble. Of course, Romeo can't be bothered. Fortunately for the both of them, it is merely the Nurse knocking on the door, and she means neither of them any harm. The nurse explains that Juliet is similarly depressed, and Romeo is right about to kill himself, thinking Juliet was sad because her cousin Tybalt is dead. The nurse quickly explains that Juliet is sad because she will be separated from Romeo, much to his relief.

Prompt A: Summary
Mercutio and Benvolio come across Tybalt and his friends on the street. When Romeo arrives, Tybalt attempts to engage him in a fight, but Romeo, very clearly, tells him that he has no interest in violence. Mercutio then answers Tybalt's challenge and the two start swinging their swords at each other. During this exchange, Mercutio is fatally wounded and dies. After Mercutio's death, Tybalt once again tries to provoke Romeo into fighting, and this time Romeo complies. He kills Tybalt in a rage, avenging Mercutio. When the Tybalt's body is discovered, Benvolio tries to persuade the Prince to pardon Romeo, but the Capulets want him to pay in blood. The Prince reaches a compromise, banishing Romeo.

Mercutio and Benvolio come across Tybalt and his friends on the street. When Romeo arrives, Tybalt attempts to engage him in a fight, but Romeo, very clearly, tells him that he has no interest in violence. Mercutio then answers Tybalt's challenge and the two start swinging their swords at each other. During this exchange, Mercutio is fatally wounded and dies. After Mercutio's death, Tybalt once again tries to provoke Romeo into fighting, and this time Romeo complies. He kills Tybalt in a rage, avenging Mercutio. When the Tybalt's body is discovered, Benvolio tries to persuade the Prince to pardon Romeo, but the Capulets want him to pay in blood. The Prince reaches a compromise, banishing Romeo.

2.5: Anxious Interrogations

Juliet is waiting for the Nurse to return from her meeting with Romeo about their marriage in frustration that she is late. Once the Nurse comes, she sees how irritated Juliet is, but does not yet tell her of the good news. The Nurse keeps providing excuses that she must catch her breath because she is tired and her muscles hurt from running to speak with Romeo. Juliet blames the Nurse's age for her being slow. When Juliet keeps asking her what Romeo said, she puts off telling her until the very last moment. In the meantime, to delay the news even further, she goes on to speak about how attractive and amazing Romeo is. Finally, when Juliet gets very annoyed with the Nurse, she finally decides to tell her that Romeo told her to meet in Friar Lawrence's cell to get married. Juliet is ecstatic and dismisses the Nurse to get the rope ladder for Romeo to climb into Juliet's room after their marriage.

3.5 Grief and Anger over Tybalt's Death
Prompt A:
When Juliet hears the new of Tybalt's death she is struck with grief. Her mother comes up and talks with her empathizing with her. Soon the subject changes and her mother becomes enraged at the killer of Tybalt, Romeo and Juliet must agree with her mother in order to keep her secret. The mother then changes to better news of a planned marriage for Juliet on Thursday. Juliet is struck, and exclaims that she will not marry Paris, but Romeo. Her mother is shocked and tells Juliet that this problem will be dealt with by your father. Capulet is extremely mad at Juliet and threatens to kick Juliet out if she disobeys him. Juliet is sad, and she talks with the Nurse for comfort.

The relationship between Caplet and Juliet is disturbed by the news of her want to marry Romeo. Capulet finds that Juliet is not respecting her parents, and she must be proud to have got the chance to have a good husband. He is enraged by her betrayal and threatens to kick her out of the house. The relationship between the two quickly changes from normal to bitter, and Juliet is depressed at the outcome of the news. "I tell thee what: get thee to church o'Thursday, Or never after look me in the face. Speak not; do not answer me"(167).

3.3- Shut It Up and Listen No More!
Prompt A:
In Act 3 Scene 3, Romeo is hiding in Fliar Lawrence's cell after he has killed the Juliet's cousin, Tybalt. The Prince has now banished him fom Verona so all he is doing is hiding now. He complains to Friar Lawrence of how he would rather be dead than banished and not being able to see his rue love, Juliet. Romeo says how Friar Lawrence does not understand how it feels to be in his position and even begins to get dangerously angry with it all. Friar Lawrence tries to calm him down and knock some sense into him by telling him he should be happy that he was banished as a punishment. The Capulet's Nurse also tried to knock some sense into Romeo by telling him to stop being such a moping child and to stay strong for Juliet.
Prompt B:
The theme of this scene is how love changes people to be extremely stubborn and blind of everything to the point that they even block out any help given to them.
Prompt E:
This picture is supposed to represent Romeo's stubborn and even whiny behavior towards the Nurse and Friar Lawrence in Act 3 Scene 3. Even with the wise advice Friar Lawrence gives to help Romeo out, Romeo still acts like a completely whiny teenager with excuses of "you don't understand my pain" and giving him childish behavior. Romeo does not listen to him because he is too immature to see the true value of Friar Lawrence's wisdom gained through experience.

The relationship between Juliet and her mother, Lady Capulet, is not a strong one. As the time gets closer for Juliet to have to marry, she is having to lie more and more to her mom about her relationship with Romeo. Bringing up marrying Paris only makes Juliet dislike Lady Capulet even more. The pressure that Lady Capulet puts on Juliet makes their relationship one that is tough to continue because it creates conflicts. After Lady Capulet tells Juliet she is to marry Paris, Juliet "will not marry yet, and when [she] does, [she] swear[s] it shall be Romeo". Lady Capulet gets angry with Juliet because she is not understanding the importance of marriage. Overall, the relationship between Juliet and Lady Capulet is one that will not last long.

The Nurse and Peter come by, and the nurse wants to speak to Romeo. Mercutio makes lots of insulting jokes at the Nurse. The Nurse tells Romeo that she has been sent by Juliet, and Romeo asks her to tell Juliet to go to Friar Lawrence’s cell that night so that they can get married. He also asks the Nurse to bring a rope ladder so that he can climb to Juliet’s room.

2.4 Switch and Spurs

morning after Romeo’s mysterious disappearance, Mercutio and Benvolio wander
throughout Verona wondering where he is. Romeo suddenly appears and Mercutio
proceeds to humiliate him about how down he’s been. However, Romeo in turn goes
along with Mercutio and jokes around with him. Mercutio comments on how Romeo
is more like himself than the days before. The nurse approaches the three
characters and asks to speak to Romeo, but she gets flustered when Mercutio
teases. When Benvolio and Mercutio leave, Romeo calms down the angry nurse and
she explains to him that she was sent by Juliet. Romeo tells her his plans for
marriage and requests that she give him a rope ladder so that he can climb up
into Juliet’s room.

It
seems as if Mercutio and Romeo must have a strong relationship with one another
because of the way Mercutio teases him. Without that former connection, Romeo
more than likely would have reacted quite negatively when Mercutio berated him
about his love life. Instead, Romeo goes along with him and jokes, “Thou wast
never with me for anything when thou wast not there for the goose.” Each
character must have respect for one another to be able to make fun of Romeo’s
life struggles. Mercutio’s (quite consistent) teasing of Romeo is nothing more
than his way of communicating to Romeo that he thinks Romeo shouldn’t be down
on himself all the time. Romeo understands this and thus their relationship
proves to be solid.
